Curious George

Book Cover:

Book Summary:  The man with the yellow hat goes over seas to capture a monkey for the zoo.  He names the monkey George, the man tells George to be a good little monkey.  We all know that George is a curious monkey and gets in trouble.  He tries to mick seagulls and falls overboard, then he micks the man in the yellow hat by calling the fire department.  The fire department arrest George and escapes and travels the city by holding on to a balloon that he finds.  The man in the yellow hat does end up finding George and takes him to the zoo.

Impressions:  That the book is ever different then I thought it was.  I guess that I was thinking that the movie was the really story but it was not.  The fact that the man in the yellow monkey napped George was something that I was not excepting.

Professional Review: Preschool-Gr. 3. Lest you worry that this 1941 story no longer works in today's sensitive climate, read it to any three- or four-year-olds. They still delight in this pet/child's exploits and triumphs. New in 1998 is a Houghton edition entitled The Original Curious George, which features reproductions of the artist's original watercolors, rather than the preseparated art used in previous editions.

Library use: This book is a good prediction book.  When George is trying to mick the seagulls, you can ask the students what do you think will happen to George?  Why?  How do you know that is going to happen?
